|
|
Hi
I am installing Gentoo stable, no multilib, in a vm.
Everything is going ok until I got to what to choose regarding what[/url] modules should start on boot.
I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of modules and the fact that I still have a very hazy idea of what they do. Although I imagine that is part of the exercise.
What I am trying currently doing is the following: I assume that hardware drivers should be enabled on boot. So I am trying to find adequate modules to the hardware I have. When I don't find any, I just don't put anything.
This means that I have an haphazard collecttion of modules who don't cover all my hardware.
My questions are these; if I don' t have an exact correlation between a module and my hardware, what should I do? Should I choose another one? If so, how should I choose?
Besides hardware what other types of modules should I be looking for?
I am a bit adrift on this issue and any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all the help given.

micaldas,
Kernel module autoloading is pretty good these days.
Virtual Machines can be a bit special though, it depends on the hypervisor.
As a first approxamation, don't list any kernel modules and see just how good module autoloading is.
Once you know what breaks, we can tell you what modules you need. _________________ Regards,
