Hello!
I`m trying to install Gentoo on my laptop (Acer Aspire V15 Nitro , i7 4510U, HD4400 + GT840M)
I`m compiled kernel a lot of times, with --menuconfig too.
I`m checked all , but i have problem with booting of OS.

Here is screenshots, where kernel is stopping boot:
https://imgur.com/a/XMYQq (second screenshot with acpi=off)

Please help me with troubleshooting of problem!
Thank you!
P.S Sorry for my bad English.

kapecitis,

Please post the output of
Code:
emerge --info
so we can see your system settings.
The output of
Code:
lspci
so we know your hardware.

Pastebin the kernel .config file and post a link to it.

kapecitis,

There is a tool called wgetpaste.
Code:
emerge wgetpaste
wgetpaste /usr/src/linux/.config

Post the URL you get back.

kapecitis,

The following must all be off.
Code:
CONFIG_IDE=m
CONFIG_FB_VESA=y
CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA=y
CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA_I2C=y

CONFIG_IDE interferes with your HDD operation. Its not supported by udev either.
All the old IDE controlls appear under the SATA menu.

CONFIG_FB_VESA=y may work but its not required. Your CONFIG_DRM_I915=y gives you the inteldrmfb, which will be used for your console.
The system may use VESA for a second or two.

CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA=y will grab the nVidia graphics and prevent the Xorg driver working later.

Are you using an initrd?
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD=y provides kernel support.
CONFIG_INITRAMFS_SOURCE="" shows that its a separate file if its used at all.

If you are not using an initrd the following must be built into the kernel binary.
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD=m
CONFIG_SATA_AHCI=m
CONFIG_EXT4_FS=m (or the driver for your root filesystem)
Without an initrd, there is nowhere to load modules from before root is mounted.

Turn off
Code:
CONFIG_SCSI_LOWLEVEL=y
CONFIG_AMD_NB=y
CONFIG_PCCARD=y
CONFIG_PCMCIA=y
CONFIG_PCMCIA_LOAD_CIS=y
CONFIG_CARDBUS=y

CONFIG_SCSI_LOWLEVEL is for real SCSI - you don't have any.
The rest are only found on antique hardware. Its just bloat. It will save compile time.

Rebuild your kernel and initrd, if you have one. As your initrd contains kernel modules the two are a matched pair.

Thank you , this helped to me , but at this moment a have a new problem:
https://imgur.com/a/4us0y

I`m installed Gentoo on HDD, but as /boot partition (on SSD) im used a System Reserved partition from Windows 10. (HDD is not bootable because he is installed instead of ODD, and BIOS not see HDD as a bootable device)
fstab is fine , im linked all partitions.

kapecitis,

Please explain how you make your kernel.
If you use an initrd tell how you make it.

Put your /boot/grub/grub.cfg onto a pastebin site.
Now that your kernel has changed, pastebin its new .config file.

Get ready to chroot but don't do the chroot step.
Post the output of
Code:
blkid

Code:
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD is not set

Is required for all hard drives. Set it to <*>
The kernel cannot see your HDD.

Code:
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SR is not set
# CONFIG_CHR_DEV_SG is not set
Are needed for Optical drives
Set those to <*> too.
You will probably need them later.

The terms initrd and initramfs are used to mean the same thing.
Other than the internal structure, they do the same job.

kapecitis,

Gentoo does not have problems, only learning opportunities :)

Please post your
Code:
emerge --info
output.
Your kernel looks OK as you have
Code:
CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV=y
