PostPosted: Tue Feb 20, 2018 10:39 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED] Update package conflict Reply with quote

Hi,

I'm trying to update an older system and i keep getting conflicts i can't seem to resolve, it asks to add one type of flags and when i do it asks for a different one and after adding the latter it requests the first ones again.
The dependencies seem to be contradicting each other and i need some help to understand why this is happening.

Thanks for the help in advance and feel free to ask me to provide you any information you think is needed.

Lets start with the update error log:

Code:

Total: 432 packages (300 upgrades, 34 new, 6 in new slots, 92 reinstalls, 4 uninstalls), Size of downloads: 2,771,316 KiB
Fetch Restriction: 1 package
Conflict: 6 blocks

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

sys-libs/readline:0

    >=sys-libs/readline-7.0:0= required by (app-shells/bash-4.4_p12:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
    ^^                  ^^^^^^

  (sys-libs/readline-6.3_p8-r3:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    sys-libs/readline:0/0= required by (sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.145-r2:0/0::gentoo, installed)

    (and 11 more with the same problem)

sys-apps/dbus:0

    >=sys-apps/dbus-1.6:=[user-session=] required by (net-wireless/bluez-5.47-r1:0/3::gentoo, installed)
                          ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  (sys-apps/dbus-1.10.18:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    sys-apps/dbus[user-session] required by (kde-plasma/plasma-workspace-5.11.5-r1:5/5::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
                  ^^^^^^^^^^^^

NOTE: Use the '--verbose-conflicts' option to display parents omitted above

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

The following USE changes are necessary to proceed:
 (see "package.use" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by kde-plasma/plasma-workspace-5.11.5-r1::gentoo[systemd]
# required by kde-plasma/kdeplasma-addons-5.11.5::gentoo
# required by kde-plasma/plasma-meta-5.11.5::gentoo
# required by kde-apps/kdebase-meta-17.08.3::gentoo
# required by @selected

>=sys-apps/dbus-1.10.18 user-session

What happens when you have USE=user-session for both of sys-apps/dbus and net-wireless/bluez (or global)?

It looks like you must have USE=user-session when running kde-plasma/plasma-workspace under systemd.

i think the problem is 2 versions of dbus that are dependencies no?

Are you sure you also have USE=user-session for net-wireless/bluez ?

Sorry, you're right now i've set it and it's stuck on readline

Code:

!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled

sys-libs/readline:0

  (sys-libs/readline-7.0_p3:0/7::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by

Ah okay. Are there any more non slot-conflict problems left? Need to clean out all hard blocks/keyword/USE first, at least for me portage was able to solve the rest of the problems after all the priority 1 problems are resolved...

if that's the "only" error left (I "quote" it because there's a whole bunch of packages in this error) then you've gotten all the priority-1 issues dealt with.

Try emerge with --backtrack=999 and see if it will figure things out.

How did you getting kde-apps/ksnapshot-15.08.3-r1 ? Somehow I didn't get this picked up in my portage...

It's trying to grab >=dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.5:4 - and this would be a tier one error that needs to be resolved.

Perhaps unmerging ksnapshot, if you don't need it, may help portage out

Remove kde-apps/ksnapshot is replaced by kde-apps/spectacle and try again

Great!

After ksnapshot it also complained about kde-misc/kio-mtp and kde-frameworks/kdelibs so i had them removed as well.

It seems fine now, no issues to proceed currently.

Appreciate alll the help :)

When did you last --depclean --ask? These are packages that are gone for a long time already.

It's been a while but i need to complete an update for that.

Right now the update stopped at Mesa:

Code:

>>> Installing (7 of 170) media-libs/mesa-17.2.8::gentoo
 * checking 44 files for package collisions
 * This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other
 * packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq
 * owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a
 * file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do
 * NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at
 * least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s).
 * If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from
 * then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough
 * information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file
 * a bug report at https://bugs.gentoo.org/ unless you report exactly
 * which two packages install the same file(s). See
 * https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Knowledge_Base:Blockers for tips on how
 * to solve the problem. And once again, please do NOT file a bug report
 * unless you have completely understood the above message.
 *
 * Detected file collision(s):
 *
 *      /usr/share/doc/mesa-17.2.8/patents.txt.bz2
 *
 * Searching all installed packages for file collisions...
 *
 * Press Ctrl-C to Stop
 *
 * None of the installed packages claim the file(s).
 *
 * Package 'media-libs/mesa-17.2.8' merged despite file collisions. If
 * necessary, refer to your elog messages for the whole content of the
 * above message.
