A quick explanation of what happened is as follows...

Minecraft crashed with an error
Error was due to can't find opengl
Goggle suggested fault was due to missing xrandr
Installed xrandr and Minecraft worked perfectly
Exited Minecraft and screen went black.
Restarted sddm and logged back in
Upon login I get a brief flash of KDE logo and then just black screen
Checked another account and all ok
Logged in with previous account with different desktop environment and all ok

Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this? I assume xrandr is the culprit but without it Minecraft won't work!
I've tried rebooting but get the same result.

Is there nothing in Xorg logs?

Nope just black screen after initial login. It seems that I've fixed it, I think by deleting contents of .cache in my home directory but I'm not entirely sure!
I'll mark it as SOLVED, hopefully it might help if someone else experiences the same issue.

Damn, it didn't fix it. I've run Minecraft again and, as soon as I quit the game, my screen went blank. Logged out and back in, still get the plasma splash but screen goes blank. Tried wiping .cache but no effect.
Is there a log file for plasma starting somewhere? My /var/log/kdm.log hasn't been updated since 2016, where is it these days? The only suspicious thing I can find is this in .xsession-errors
Code:

ERROR: The control display is undefined; please run
       `/usr/bin/nvidia-settings --help` for usage information.

startplasmacompositor: Starting up...
startplasmacompositor: Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?
but the file creation date on that is 2016.
I'm using the Nvidia drivers so it might be that minecraft is wiping the config file but how do I fix it?

I got it working again by deleting my .local directory but why that fixes it I don't know.

Ok, I went through the dates of last altered in ~/.local and I may have nailed it down to the contents of ~/.local/share/kscreen
I deleted every thing in there and restarted sddm and it worked, the only reason now is why it screwed up in the first place! Could xrandr have caused it?

I use xrandr on all my systems with Plasma. No issues, and I run Steam on a few.

Lots of things depend on the library, so you likely had it installed already. The xrandr app is a command-line tool for manipulating the library. Minecraft likely did something your system didn't like. Erasing the old configuration may have allowed your system to generate a clean, working configuration.
