Hi folks,

Forgive a Gentoo newbie here (although I did manage to get it installed!), but I switched my display manager from lightdm to xdm, by changing it as such in /etc/conf.d/xdm, and now when I try to log in at xdm, it just loops me back to xdm, and I can't get to my xfce desktop. Realized there was something else I needed to change to use xdm, but I didn't, and so now I'm stuck.

I was hoping to be able to drop into the console or bypass the display manager so I could edit /etc/conf.d/xdm in the shell to get back to lightdm, but I can't seem to do that (don't know the key combo, or...?).

Thanks for any help...

ctrl+alt+F<nr> (where <nr> is from 1 to 6, with 7 you return to X) to switch to console.

EDIT: if you enabled media key as primary you should add also Fn key

Hmm, that's what I thought the solution was, too, and so I had already tried that, but to no avail. I'm puzzled as to why this didn't work. Thank you for the suggestion, regardless.

EDIT: Working on a hunch, I surmised that the problem might have something to do with the monitor being connected via DisplayPort. Switched to VGA, did ctrl+alt+F1, and lo and behold, there's my console! Edited my conf.d back to lightdm, and problem solved. Strange but true.
