Hello All,
I've worked with CentOS/RHEL/Fedora mostly for a few years and some ubuntu/debian.
and I read that if you want to get deeper into Linux that Gentoo is a good distro to learn that.
I also read that the forums are friendly to new Gentoo users so I thought I'd join. I've started to try
and install Gentoo on a vm and using the Installation Handbook in the wiki. to help me get started.
I was hoping to get some tips on how to get started with understanding and learning how Gentoo works as a
beginner with this distro so that I'll know where to go on from there. Looking forward to the replies |

Welcome
Ditching the gentoo live image in favour of systemrescuecd, which is gentoo based, makes life much simpler if you ever feel the urge to install on bare metal.

Hydrae,
Welcome to Gentoo.
When you follow the handbook you will have a system that can boot on its own and is ready to install more software.
Its not the end of your install, more the end of the beginning but the hard bit is behind you.
Where you go next depends on what the install will be. Servers and desktops now install different things.

Hydrae,
You can install as many desktops/window managers as you have room for on your HDD.
There are lots to choose from. _________________ Regards,
