I want to install chrome/chromium and dbus is being pulled by some gtk3 dependency I can't disable :/

Is there anyone out there that use chrome and somehow manage to remove DBUS ?

I remove it manually after the install complete and everything works fine, but when I update the system portage reinstall it :D

I really consider using chrome from withing docker or some other chroot methods.....

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I try to avoid dbus, but I don't refuse to install it. So in my /etc/portage/make.conf I have USE="-dbus" for the general case. A few packages require it, so I have it installed. Some of those packages require that other packages have dbus support, so I have that enabled in /etc/portage/package.use. So I have the minimum dependence on dbus that I can, without taking painful steps and decisions to completely do away with it.

Come to think of it, it would be interesting to see something for dbus like apulse is for pulseaudio. A more limited, less invasive version for specific uses.

Any chance /etc/portage/package.provided can help here ? I didn't mange to do so.

Ended up installing cups + dbus the things I will never use.

I guess GTK programmers has gone windows style....
