|

I'm using gimp-2.9.8 which although it is a developmental release is very stable and trouble free (at least for my purposes).
But whenever gimp is started a puzzling message is printed to the terminal:
"Missing fast-path babl conversion detected, Implementing missing babl fast paths
accelerates GEGL, GIMP and other software using babl, warnings are printed on
first occurance of formats used where a conversion has to be synthesized
programmatically by babl based on format description"
Babl is a set of conversion libraries that are used by gimp.
I am curious as to why the conversion fast paths are missing. Does anyone have an explanation or a reference? |

elkhunter ...
the error is rather cryptic (well, barely english), but it seems to suggest some EGL capability is missing from mesa (I suspect gles1 or gles2 and so OpenGL ES).

I emerged mesa with "USE = gles1, gles2" and then emerged babl and gimp, but the same warning message appears.
But I am now using the stable release gimp-2.10.4 and the warning seems limited to only one babl conversion:
*WARNING* missing babl fast path(s): "R'G'B' double" to "CIE Lab double"
Unless I am mistaken, only the fastpath for this one babl conversion is missing.
Yet I still don't know what a "fastpath" actually is. |
