Hi all -
I use i3 wm and have managed to set it up so that if I click on things like "Show File in File Browser" from an app like atom or use xdg-open, Midnight Commander is the default browser. What I can't seem to do is figure out how to get it to use urxvt as the terminal instead of xterm. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have tried TERMINAL=urxvt xdg-open ~ and TERM=urxvt xdg-open. Everything I google seems to have non-answers, but a lot of pages where how to do this is debated. Anyone know how this is actually done?
Thanks!
****For now, I just removed xterm (necer use it) and ln -s /usr/bin/urxvt /usr/bin/xterm - a workable hack, but I'd still like to know if there is a "real" way to do this. |

Yes I have that all working. I was referring to what applications that use Freedesktop.org standards consider default. For example, if I open up the editor atom and click on a file in the file menu pane and select "Show in File Browser", regardless of what I have set in my i3 config, it was opening up qwindirstat - which I had installed on my computer. I later removed / disabled those entries using various xdg commands and/or editing xdg config files and was able to get it to openMidnight Commander, but always in xterm (I wanted urxvt). Finally, I removed xterm and made a soft link xterm to urxvt and it works like I wanted. All my i3 key combos work with urxvt just fin and as expected. So it seemed like a lot of hjacking to get xdg / freedesktop aware apps to do what I wante, and wondered if anyone knew of an easier way. All my searches on google f the matter show that the FreeDesktop crowd actually debate this a lot.
Thanks! |
