I am trying to update my system using
Code:

emerge -av --update --deep --with-bdeps=y --newuse @world

The update tries to install gcc-4.6.4, which fails. I am currently using gcc-6.4.0. I am not sure why it needs 4.6.4, but here are the related informations pertaining to emerging gcc-4.6.4

emerge --info '=sys-devel/gcc-4.6.4::gentoo'
Code:

emerge -pqv '=sys-devel/gcc-4.6.4::gentoo'
Code:

[ebuild  NS   ] sys-devel/gcc-4.6.4 [4.7.4, 5.4.0-r3, 6.3.0, 6.4.0-r1] USE="cxx fortran (multilib) nls nptl openmp (-altivec) (-awt) -debug -doc (-fixed-point) -gcj (-hardened) (-libssp) -mudflap -objc -objc++ -objc-gc -pgo -regression-test -vanilla"

During this command a little error seems to pop up about cuda needing GCC 5 or eralier, which causes it to be masked. I can't imagine this could prevent gcc from being installed.

build log at /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.6.4/temp/build.log can be found here (please let me know if the link doesn't work)

the environment information can be found here (please let me know if the link doesn't work)

Emerge says to include this build log with my bug report. This isn't a bug report yet, but maybe it will help in diagnosis.

I also noticed that it said there was some information in /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.6.4/work/build/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libgcc/config.log so I have included config.log here

It says in that log that

See `config.log' for more details.

It seems to have error with my -march flag and -qversion. What does that mean and how can I fix that? I would like to keep my -march flag the same if possible.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully we can find the solution.[/url]

If yourself has no use for it, Gentoo does not need it for anything, just remove it.

I don't know what you are talking about. It seems that Gentoo does need gcc 4.6.4 for some reason. It is not apparent to me what it needs it for.

If you are referring to my -march flag, well I have a Ryzen system. Why shouldn't I have a system that is tailored to my special architecture?

Otherwise, you were so unspecific in your answer that I do not know how to respond to you, nor make use of your "advice".

All GCC versions prior to GCC-6 are masked and completely unsupported.

Code:
$ emerge -vp =gcc-4.6.4

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  NS   #] sys-devel/gcc-4.6.4:4.6.4::gentoo [6.4.0:6.4.0::gentoo, 7.2.0:7.2.0::gentoo] USE="cxx doc fortran (multilib) nls nptl openmp (-altivec) (-awt) -debug (-fixed-point) -gcj (-hardened) (-libssp) -mudflap -objc -objc++ -objc-gc -pgo -regression-test -vanilla" 70.338 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 in new slot), Size of downloads: 70.338 KiB

The following mask changes are necessary to proceed:
 (see "package.unmask" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by =gcc-4.6.4 (argument)
# /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Michał Górny <mgorny@g.o>, Andreas K. Hüttel <dilfridge@g.o>,
# Matthias Maier <tamiko@g.o> (21 May 2017)
# These old versions of toolchain packages (binutils, gcc, glibc) are no
# longer officially supported and are not suitable for general use. Using
# these packages can result in build failures (and possible breakage) for
# many packages, and may leave your system vulnerable to known security
# exploits.
# If you still use one of these old toolchain packages, please upgrade (and
# switch the compiler / the binutils) ASAP. If you need them for a specific
# (isolated) use case, feel free to unmask them on your system.
# (updated 27 Dec 2017 with gcc < 5.4)

TheMachinesTeacher,

the first gcc version that supports your -march=znver1 is gcc-6
see on https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-6/changes.html
Quote:
Support for AMD Zen (family 17h) processors is now available through the -march=znver1 and -mtune=znver1 options.
All previous gcc versions don't support -march=znver1

Please try it with cuda-9
nvidia-cuda-sdk-9.0.176
nvidia-cuda-toolkit-9.0.176
this version has gcc-6 support.

Code:
emerge -av --depclean gcc
should help.

Thanks for the help. I should have uninstalled the other gccs a long time ago.
