try to set CONFIG_SND_HDA_PREALLOC_SIZE=2048 or maybe higher? for the cpu issue, but youre gonna need it regardless, that is not a CA0132 or a SI3054 chip and you must have a working codec |

I have set the prealloc buffer size to 4096 and set the generic hda driver.
The CPU is still constantly pushed at 10%.
I'm going to re-disable it. _________________ Answers please.

do you have the codec loaded? dell uses intel-hda, and they usually tend to use CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK |

and then try CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_SIGMATEL, but like i said, u must have a working codec and i know for a fact the two you selected are not on that board. |

I undid what I just did in the previous post and used alsamixer.
I maxed out all volume. Untoggled mute. I physically increased volume controls on my keyboard. I then ran speaker-test.-t wav -c 2, and absolutely no sound came out. The output of speaker-test acted as if the speakers are actually working. I opened a music file with cmus and it started playing, but no sound.
EDIT: I dislike the extra 4 megabytes of RAM being used and the constant 10% push on my CPU.
My CPU is: https://www.cnet.com/products/amd-turion-64-x2-mobile-technology-tl-60-2-ghz-processor-mobile-series/specs/ _________________ Answers please.

4MB is uncessary. set it to 2048. follow josephg and bunders advice, try REALTEK and then try SIGMATEL. |

I enabled SIGMATEL and the CPU is now back to normal. Nevertheless, no sound is present.
I also have noticed more options in the alsamixer equalizer. I enabled everithing except for muting. Still no sound. _________________ Answers please.

I checked dmesg and noticed this:
Code: | [ 2.656284] ALSA device list:
[ 2.659193] No soundcards found. |

I tried REALTEK and the CPU is now at 10% usage.
That usage was taken by a process named kworker:3
EDIT: Also no sound. _________________ Answers please.

I set these options as modules and I added modules-load to runlevel boot. Sound works now.
Many thanks. _________________ Answers please.
