RIP Kofi Annan, ex UN Secretary General, Special Envoy to Syria, Nobel Peace Prize winner and the "world's top diplomat".

None too soon. Another crooked politician that ran the most corrupt organization in modern history, who got rich off of ill gotten gains. If there was a hell, Kofi would be in line to enter.

For some beacon of morality he sure turned a blind eye to the Chinese raping of Tibet.

If you are drinking good wine, then it must be an Oregon vintage.

Maybe John McCain was stuck in the old ways. Maybe he was a conservative hardliner. Maybe even a war monger. It doesn't matter any more.

What does matter, though, is his integrity, his ethical resolution and his hard criticism, also for himself.
Although being tortured in an almost 6 years lasting captivity in north Vietnam, he was later working with John Kerry on the reconciliation with Vietnam.
Although having supported President Trumps tax plans, calling them "far from perfect", he voted fiercely against the abolition of Obamacare.
And please remember, that when it began to be clear that McCain would lose against Obama in 2008, it was McCain who told the booing (white) masses to calm down, as Obama would be his president, too.

Had he been a conservative hardliner, he wouldn't have voted in support of policies which were 180 degrees from conservatism. That's why some referred to him as a "maverick" and why non-conservatives cite him as a "tolerable" Republican.

I know. But that's what many people say. And that's why the "maybe" at the beginning. It doesn't matter any more. (Could also have been an "even if" or something like that...)

Terry A. Davis. God's very own coder.

Rumors are going around that the creator of Temple OS has died in an accident. Nothing has been verified yet.

The Ballad of Terry A. Davis

{EDIT} Seems to be confirmed

I was pleased when we were graced with McCain's departure, but I'm actually sad that Terry's gone

Hunter S. Thompson, but seems fitting for Terry wrote:
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

{EDIT}

Confirmed :(

Quote:
A man killed by a train in The Dalles in mid-August had a Youtube following and was a “minor celebrity” in the computer world for doing the Herculean task of writing his own operating system, a fan said.

Terrance Davis, 48, was killed Aug. 11 near West First and Terminal Avenue. He’d been homeless for some months and was schizophrenic. He spent 10 years writing his operating system, Temple OS, because God told him to, according to a 2014 tech magazine story on him titled “God’s Lonely Programmer.”

John McColl, a computer engineer from Sydney, Australia, said he hoped Davis would be remembered for his achievements and not his mental illness.

He said it was “kind of hard for a lay person to understand what a phenomenal achievement” it is to write an entire operating system singlehandedly. “It actually boggles my mind that one man wrote all that.”

He compared it to construction, saying a man could build a house by himself, but this was “like building a skyscraper by yourself.”

McColl was one of several fans of Davis who called the Chronicle to confirm his passing.
