I knew he had died, but I didn't realize that was 2010!

The sad part started when vultures started picking over his still breathing corpse.

RIP. May Thor find you worthy and bring you home to Asgard.

It's a shame that he never got to see one of the most gifted actors of our generation play a part that was almost written for him.

Tom Cruise as Luke Cage.

Even with events in France, one can depend on a good laugh (or cry) where it comes to African politics.

As part of the end of the thread, I'll add one I only learned of recently.

Christopher Stasheff (June).
I read some of his A Wizard in Rhyme series and have the two in Star Stone.

While on the subject authors, a belated mention of Anne McCaffrey (2011).
I still have Dragonriders of Pern on my list. Although having read some about it, I'm a little less interested.

Phil Trenary

During the course of his life Phil created opportunity for quite a few people. I was one of them.

I was recently told by someone from Memphis that the shooting was a gang initiation. Can't find any news to support that but the news after his killing is rather sparse. It doesn't fit any appealing narrative.

Wow. Hopefully she was only present and not at all involved.

Rumors are going around that the creator of Temple OS has died in an accident. Nothing has been verified yet.

The Ballad of Terry A. Davis

{EDIT} Seems to be confirmed

I was pleased when we were graced with McCain's departure, but I'm actually sad that Terry's gone

{EDIT}

Confirmed :(

Quote:
A man killed by a train in The Dalles in mid-August had a Youtube following and was a “minor celebrity” in the computer world for doing the Herculean task of writing his own operating system, a fan said.

Terrance Davis, 48, was killed Aug. 11 near West First and Terminal Avenue. He’d been homeless for some months and was schizophrenic. He spent 10 years writing his operating system, Temple OS, because God told him to, according to a 2014 tech magazine story on him titled “God’s Lonely Programmer.”

John McColl, a computer engineer from Sydney, Australia, said he hoped Davis would be remembered for his achievements and not his mental illness.

He said it was “kind of hard for a lay person to understand what a phenomenal achievement” it is to write an entire operating system singlehandedly. “It actually boggles my mind that one man wrote all that.”

He compared it to construction, saying a man could build a house by himself, but this was “like building a skyscraper by yourself.”

McColl was one of several fans of Davis who called the Chronicle to confirm his passing.

RIP Terry. Thanks for HolyC.
