Thanks.
In case anyone stumbles on this in 2023 or whenever, this probably now dead link fixed it in 2017.

Thanks for the links.
On a related note, it'd be nice if our bugzilla was indexed by search engines. Google search >>> bugzilla search. |

I prefer to use www-client/pybugz for search bug
Code: | $ bugz --skip-auth search dev-ruby/rdoc

so, according to the bugzilla, setting the locale to an utf-8 based fixes this problem. Can someone explain to me how to do that in detail?

Okay setting locale to a utf-8 fixed it in my case, I needed goth terminal client and gentoo server running unicode->utf8. Maybe I can help you too.. What I did was a 'eselect locale list' and then a 'eselect locale set en_GB.utf8'. Correct the locale string if it is wrong, I used a number. Oh and remember to do a '. /etc/profile' after. |

Unfortunately the same error occurs on my box, although I've already set an utf-8 locale:
Code: | locale
LANG=de_DE.utf8
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.utf8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.utf8"
LC_COLLATE=de_DE.utf8
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.utf8"
LC_PAPER="de_DE.utf8"
LC_NAME="de_DE.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.utf8"
LC_ALL= |
Setting to an english utf-8 locale didn't work either. If there's anything, I should post in order to solve this problem, please tell me.
Regards Andreas |

(I left out the information about the overlays, but could of course add it too, if necessary. I just wanted to spare a few lines that way.)
And this is the output of locale -a
Code: |
C
de_DE
de_DE.iso88591
de_DE.utf8
en_GB
en_GB.iso88591
en_GB.utf8
en_US.utf8
POSIX

@andi456,
from your cave info rdoc: | LC_ALL=C |
^ this pulls probably the no-utf8 locale for the build.
Remove it, or change it to a en_GB.utf8 locale should probably help. |

Ok, I figured it out. So for paludis users who stumble across the same problem the solution in my case was to add the following two lines in /etc/paludis/bashrc:
Code: |
export LC_ALL=""
export LANG="de_DE.utf8"
|
Thanks josef.
