Tried but same problem, and i think manual run of make do not use FEATURES - it is only for emerge...

4.4.26 is ancient and contain about 150 security vulnerabilities fixed in more recent kernels.

Your problem might be fixed with this patch added to the stable tree in 4.4.35

That's correct, unless you configure ccache to be used from make too.
Lets make the kernel build system output a bit more.

Try

KBUILD_VERBOSE=1 make
and put the output onto a pastebin.
