An KDE trau ich mich noch nicht ran.
Ich habs zwar porbiert. Doch da klatscht das Menu immer weg.

Naja, wenn du KDE (Plasma) nicht nutzen willst, wie wäre es dann mit einem Nicht-Plasma-Profil? Z. B.

Sind die 17.1 Profile überhaupt schon zu empfehlen ?
siehe Auszug aus -> eselect news (2017-12-26-experimental-amd64-17-1-profiles)

Ausgeschlossen werden kann dies natürlich nie, aber das ist extrem unwahrscheinlich.
Es ist vergleichbar mit einem frühen gcc-upgrade: Einige wenige Pakete benötigen u.U. noch Patches, damit sie sich kompilieren oder starten lassen. Im Gegensatz zu einem Compiler-Upgrade hat man aber nicht die Möglichkeit "mal eben schnell" den alten Compiler anzuwerfen, wenn man ein betroffenes Paket jetzt unbedingt dringend braucht und den Fehler auf die Schnelle nicht beheben kann.
