hi there,

i am just wondering which service is causing this behaviour. right after system startup(i use xfce4) my network interface shows 2-4,5kb/s outgoing traffic(it does not even stop minutes after system booted up).

of course it tried to figure out the reason, with ps -aux, checked lots of services but coult not find anything suspicously looking. i also tried netstat -l. this is the output :
Code:
$ netstat -l
Active Internet connections (only servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address           Foreign Address         State
tcp        0      0 localhost.localdoma:ipp 0.0.0.0:*               LISTEN
tcp6       0      0 localhost:ipp           [::]:*                  LISTEN
udp        0      0 0.0.0.0:bootpc          0.0.0.0:*
raw6       0      0 [::]:ipv6-icmp          [::]:*                  7

i dont know about bootpc and ipv6-icmp.

is this ok or should i be worried ? and how to find the reason for outgoing traffic ?? thanks a lot

ipp stands for internet printing protocol... i'm guessing you have cups installed and running?

if you want to get an idea of what traffic is going on, you could tcpdump the interface and view the output file in wireshark afterwards.
