Profile 13.0 or 17.0 for new installation

Hey everyone, I'm curious what I should pick for my new Gentoo installation, I'm new to Gentoo and don't quite understand which one is better for a new installation on my i686 netbook, its an intel atom N270.
I think the new 'profile' means newer packages from portage? Or do I have that misunderstood? I can just upgrade from 13.0 to 17.0 later on, right? Would it be better to take 17.0 in the installer or just select 13.0 & upgrade it later? Or should I even upgrade it at all?
I'm new to Gentoo, I kind of get how portage works as I've messed around with it on my Raspberry Pi (Sakaki's build, which comes autoinstalled for the Pi), but I'm still struggling with my first installation.

Basing on the fact that 13.0 will be deprecated soon, you might well fight through 17.

I feel your pain, I have a N270 that I need to upgrade as well, this machine will take a while.
At least it won't be as bad as the 933MHz P3 I have... though marginally...

Hey thanks for your reply eccerr0r, I suppose I will have to try to upgrade to 17.0 unless this installation doesn't work out then I'll give 17.0 a try instead of 13.0.
My N270 is a Dell Inspiron Mini 1011, I wish I was able to upgrade the processor in it to 64-bit, I'm not really sure if that's even possible though unfortunately, this thing has a 4-5 hour battery & its very durable, has a SSD & new WiFi+bluetooth PCI-E card, but unfortunately it still takes a long time to compile things. I'm on my like... 5th attempt on installing Gentoo, can anybody tell me if the guide I'm following has any mistakes in it? I've tried a few youtube videos on how-to-install-gentoo but those were also unsuccessful. I'm trying to install it on BTRFS.

Why not take it from the horses mouth?
The Gentoo Handbook may not have been updated (yet) but it's from Gentoo.
You're not the first one to try 3d party instructions but it usually ends with asking for help in the forums.

To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo,has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.

I finally got Gentoo installed but now I'm stuck without a connection after the installation, I did everything right, I followed the guide to a T, it told me to do 'dhcpcd enp4s0' and then I'd have a connection after I'm done, but I don't have a connection now so what gives??? :/
