NVIDIA GTX 970 + nouveau + 4k

Gentoo Systemd Wayland Nouveau drivers i can not seem to get higher refresh rate on samsung 4k monitor then 30Hz while the screen supports 60Hz.
from reading on the internet i noticed that nouveau does not support 60hz on HDMI (on 4k), sadly my screen does not have other then HDMI plugin support.
i would not mind using nvidia-drivers instead of nouveau, however it seems the support for Gnome wayland with nvidia-drivers is not that great.

so what are my options? nvidia-drivers with xorg so i can use 4k screen with 60hz, or stick to nouveau + wayland and just use 30hz on the 4k screen?

any solutions to get 60hz on 4k with wayland + gnome?

Possibly it can be overridden using kernel parameter
nouveau.hdmimhz=600

You need HDMI-2 both ends to get 4k at 60Hz.
Its not clear from the on line info if the graphics card has HDMI-2 or not.

What screen?
It may have a mix of HDMI-1.x and HDMI-2 inputs. You must use a HDMI-2 input for 4k and 60Hz

hey neddy, how can i provide you more information on how to check if i got support for HDMI-2 60hz on the video card?
the screen is: Samsung Electric company 28" model and version number: U28E590D

the screen got 2 HDMI connectors, and i am pretty sure the screen supports 60hz because the 4k works nicely on my playstation 4.
when selecting 59hz in the gnome display settings the screen and system just freeze.
only 30 Hz (NTSC) seem to work but 59 Hz does not say NTSC.

U28E590D only supports 4k60 on the second HDMI connector. Check the cable is plugged in there.

What Ant P. said and the manual I downloaded says you have a Display Port 1.2 connector too.

Reading between the lines, you need to use HDMI-2 and the Display Port inputs to have two 4k 60Hz input sources connected at the same time.

i tried both connectors.
when selecting 59hz in the gnome display manager, the screen goes black and the screen does not display anything but a black screen. (i was wrong i previous post system does not freeze)

*edit*

i just used another cable to connect the 4k screen, sorry for being such a newb but i don't know what kind of cable this is, it looks like HDMI cable, exactly the same, just a bit bigger.

however i got 4k 59Hz support now so i guess it is solved.

Well, you only have a choice of HDMI and Display Port.
Look at the connectors on the cable end on. HDMI has two corners shaped for keying. Displaf Port only one.
There are other differences to stop them being plugged into the wrong place too but those are clearly visible on the cables.

HDMI cables vary in quality and max bandwidth, like Ethernet ones. That's probably why it didn't work with the other one.
