hi all!
is it possible that the most important thing had been forgotten: reboot the machine???
otherwise i had to restart every running service/program?
and i am not sure anyway to recompile and reinstall the kernel. i have nothing like vmware drivers but an initramfs with mdadm static.
greets

I wouldn't say it is strictly necessary to reboot. Remember most libraries will have been built with PIE already, so you are unlikely to have any binaries fail to run. The kernel itself is not affected by the change anyway. However, you'd presumably want to reboot sometime soon if you have updated your kernel anyway; when you do so, you'll know that all service and other binaries are also then benefiting from PIE. |
