I googled for you. Try to put the following in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf:
options snd-hda-intel index=1,0

I also googled but found nothing, I tried your suggestion and here is what happens when I run speaker-test

Code:
#speaker-test

speaker-test 1.1.2

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/alsa-lib-1.1.2/work/alsa-lib-1.1.2/src/pcm/pcm_dmix.c:1041:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory

Here is alsaloop
Code:
#alsaloop
playback hw:0,0 open error: No such file or directory
Loopback initialization failure.

I have no working sound on this new install.

Your kernel config given above is incomplete. Please post the output of grep "CONFIG_SND .config" and the output of "aplay -l".

The_Document,

Your HDMI will be the default sound card as it appears first on the PCI bus.
What does
Code:
aplay -L
tell about your sound cards?

Will fix that if your sound drivers are built as modules.

What does
Code:
ls -l  /dev/snd
show ?

Make friends with wgetpaste and put your entire kernel .config file onto a pastebin site.

Here is kernel config:

Here is alsa.conf:

Here is /dev/snd

Here is aplay -L

I switched to pulse audio in hopes to get sound to work, however I sincerely believe this is a kernel issue. Please let me know whats wrong with my config.

The_Document,

Your kernel looks OK, that's supported by your /dev/snd.
Is your normal user in the audio group?
If not you will get permissions problems.

Run
Code:
alsamixer -c0
then
Code:
alsamixer -c1

The HDMI sound card will not have any sliders. It may not have any mute switches either.
The Analogue card will have lots of sliders with switches at the bottom.

As your sound cards are both High Definition Audio, they can operate at 44.1kKz sample rates for CD like sound or 48kHz (or more) for digital audio.
However, they can't do both at the same time. If a digital channel is enabled on a card, all the analogue is disabled.
Find all the controls with SPDI/F or EAC? in their names and be sure that they are muted.
Code:

┌────────────────────────────── AlsaMixer v1.1.5 ──────────────────────────────┐

That's the MM for Mute or OO for Open.
A good start is only Open Master, Front and PCM and set the sliders to about 70%

Pulse is a wrapper around alsa. Until alsa works, pulse can't work either.

I really do NOT know how to add the line to kernel parameter. I think it has something to do with grub, anyways I hope someone tells me, for now I am removing pulseaudio since its wont help much.

Yes , you can tell grub which parameters to pass. But better modularize your kernel. You currently have nearly everything built in. As you see, having optional things, such as sound, built as modules has the advantage that you can unload und reload the modules with different parameters and put those parameters in /etc/modprobe.d configuration files without rerunning grub-mkconfig and rebooting.

The_Document,

This is one case where modules do help. If this doesn't fix it we will be using trial and error with module parameters to tell snd_hda_intel how your motherboard is wired.
With passing module parameters at boot, it will be a long painful process.
With
Code:
modprobe -r snd_hda_intel
modprobe snd_hda_intel index=1,0
for example, there is no messing with grub and rebooting required.

If you really want a monolithic kernel, once you know the kernel parameters to pass, you can rebuild it that way, pass the parameters on the kernel command line, knowing that they are correct.

I fixed the issue by adding snd-hda-intel index=1,0 to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf at the BEGINNING of the file, initially I tried doing it at the end and it did not work. The issue is resolved sound and sound works great.
