Hello everybody!

It is about a week dropbox not starting.

I unistalled and tried to emerge again. I've tried any hint 'n tip i've found but i couldn't manage to make it work.
(i use KDE)
Installing
Code:

 eix -I dropbox
[I] net-misc/dropbox
     Available versions:  34.3.19^ms 35.4.20^ms[1] 36.4.22^ms[1] (~)37.3.28^ms 37.4.29^ms[1] 38.4.27^ms[1] 39.4.49^ms[1] {X +librsync-bundled selinux PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7"}
     Installed versions:  39.4.49^ms[1](09:11:49 24/11/17)(X librsync-bundled -selinux PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7")
     Homepage:            http://dropbox.com/
     Description:         Dropbox daemon (pretends to be GUI-less)

[1] "jorgicio" /var/lib/layman/jorgicio

I've tried both jorgicio overlay and portage tree package 37.3.28 but nothing changed.

When installing net-misc/dropbox
and run first time in console i get this
Code:

$ dropbox
dropbox: locating interpreter
dropbox: logging to /tmp/dropbox-antifreeze-NkSSfZ
dropbox: initializing
dropbox: running python 2.7.11
dropbox: setting program path '/opt/dropbox/dropbox'
dropbox: setting home path '/opt/dropbox'
dropbox: setting python path '/opt/dropbox:/opt/dropbox/python-packages-27.zip'
dropbox: python initialized
dropbox: running dropbox
dropbox: setting args
dropbox: applying overrides
dropbox: running main script
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._constant_time.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._openssl.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/cryptography.hazmat.bindings._padding.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/psutil._psutil_linux.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/psutil._psutil_posix.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/linuxffi.pthread._linuxffi_pthread.so'

dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/PyQt5.QtPrintSupport.so'
dropbox: load fq extension '/opt/dropbox/PyQt5.QtDBus.so'

and it freeze there with this in the /tmp

Code:

 $cat dropbox-antifreeze-Y2Mmg1

dropbox: logging to /tmp/dropbox-antifreeze-Y2Mmg1
dropbox: initializing
dropbox: running python 2.7.11
dropbox: setting program path '/opt/dropbox/dropbox'
dropbox: setting home path '/opt/dropbox'
dropbox: setting python path '/opt/dropbox:/opt/dropbox/python-packages-27.zip'
dropbox: python initialized
dropbox: running dropbox
dropbox: setting args
dropbox: applying overrides
dropbox: running main script

i kill it and try again with same results.

Then i install
Code:

eix dropbox-cli
* net-misc/dropbox-cli
     Available versions:  1-r1 1.6.0 {PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7"}
     Homepage:            http://www.dropbox.com/
     Description:         Cli interface for dropbox (python), part of nautilus-dropbox

i run
Code:

$ dropbox-cli start -i

and the deamon is installed but it doesn't pop me to the web site to log in.

with this output
Code:

dropbox-cli start -i

This is usually because of a permissions error. Storing your home folder on a network share can also cause an error.

I experienced something similar some time ago. I was trying to run Dropbox for the first time on a new Gentoo installation, and I couldn't make it link to my account. The application started, there was a tray icon displayed, but I couldn't do anything more. I couldn't see anything abnormal in the logs, they were similar to what you showed in your post.

By trial and error I found that if I start Dropbox application with empty DISPLAY environment variable (or without X11 started), then in the console it showed me the link that I could paste to the web browser. That link took me to Dropbox website, where I could log in to my account. And then after restarting Dropbox normally it started to sync files as it should.

So maybe you could try running Dropbox like this:
Code:
DISPLAY= ./dropboxd
from directory dropboxd is in (I don't know where exactly it is in your case), and see if it gives you a link like that?

@arcctgx

Thanks you for your input. Yes with this trick for sure i was able to sync!

But i still needed the tray icon.

So i found in a forum that i had to delete .dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-*/libdrm.so.2

I did but nothing happened.

I re installed the cli deamon.(#dropbox-cli start -i) And deleted again the libdrm.so.2 and with #dropbox-cli start

IT WORKED!!!!!!!

Thank you all and happy new year!!

Thanks for this.

This is half fix at best, any idea what update is killing dropbox so we can file a bug upstream? I'd like to have dropbox working properly.

solved for me! Thanks! (It doesn't works for me after an update)

I post my clean procedure for solving the problem and for who needs help

1- Delete .dropbox-dist and .dropbox folders on /home (note their are hidden)
2- kill all dropbox instances (but not allways works, prefered method is reboot the computer because their don't die after SU kill)
3- dropbox-cli start -i

There's a dialog for automatic download of the software on dropbox-dist, and there's a new login between the browser (without dialog login), very easy for passwords not remember cleanly

procedure on code:
Code:
rm -r .dropbox-dist
rm -r .dropbox
reboot

after rebooting
Code:
dropbox-cli start -i

Notes for noobs: remember, the dropbox and dropbox-cli must be merged and your user there's on /etc/conf.d/dropbox DROPBOX_USERS="your username"
