Naib did in the Snowflakes thread. But it's worthy of being posted more than once, imo.

Ahh, my mistake.

Well, she came across as retarded. Complete inability to comprehend English.

Who within the media business does not? It's not like she is an exception in anyway. So, I could see her actually think about what JP said and reflect on that.
Not so much of that happening in the regular media exactly.

Merged.

I'll stop merging stuff if people really want to go back. Personally, I prefer the "streamlined" first page.

It's quite all right, I don't generally share YouTube videos so I had forgotten about this thread.

Men's brain VS Women's brain

I do not know who won this contest. It was a fun watch and some a-ha! moments though.

That last part isn't how communication actually works.

Shannon Luminary Lecture Series - Stephen Fry, actor, comedian, journalist, author

Pretty good. Only contains a few of the requisite vapid platitudes you'd expect from a leftist. And they are at least delivered with the subtlety you might expect.

He talks for just under an hour, followed by a chat with the "emcee," followed by a "Q&A," consisting of only a couple of Q's, but longer A's. The post talk is worth listening to as well (that is if you're inclined to watch at all).

I have more of a musing in the opposite direction: do we, or should we, have a more generic sort of gems topic? I sporadically run across things that seem like they belong in Off the Wall, though I have doubts about there being any significant conversation around any given one.

What kind of other gems? When this thread reached the ~20 page mark, I planned to use "video gems" in the title instead of continuing to name the specific source. But I'm not thinking that 's what you meant.

The rough guideline I'd been using for merging was whether or not the generic subject had a lot of threads on the first page, or if the subject was historically of that type. Also similar topics with minimal engagement. But, if a subject fades away, I'm less aggressive on merging (until it becomes necessary again).

As much as anything, it is a balance between usability and maintainability.

I don't have a particular attachment to the way it is, so I'm game to try alternatives.

Indeed, I was thinking of text articles, typically "news", though sometimes not. One specific example that comes to mind would be an article covering what The Doctor recently posted in the snowflakes topic, though apparently that found a home; there are other things that would not fit in the snowflakes topic nor here. Perhaps I should just start posted them when I find, or recall, specific ones.

I've thought about that from time to time, but didn't notice any immediately obvious sorting buckets (or perhaps just not a threshold of arbitrarily sufficient / annoying volume).

I'd considered general science (as opposed topics involving climate change), tech and sports. But mostly none of those occur with notable frequency.

This guy's channel

A very nice, non-edrama Astronomy channel. Give him a sub if you appreciate it.

That's really cool.

I can't tell how many of the parts are specialized. It seems that Lego (and the market, really) have gotten away from the generic building blocks and moved toward "build this toy" type of kits. A bit sad IMO. One of my favorite toys. I remember being in awe at a friend who was lucky enough to have a Lego "city" (made from generic blocks) which fit on a table approximately the size of a ping pong table.

I remember seeing that Hogwarts Castle on the news. I think it was a female of some age.
All bricks. One million of them. Quite impressive, I have to admit.

Apparently, the stickers, strings, pulley wheels (which were 3D printed for the build), and 5KG of lead for the counterweight, with some unconventional use of standard parts, such as figure heads used as bearings in the slewing ring.

You're talking about custom, non-Lego parts though, right?

I meant Lego parts but specifically designed to fit only in a crane, or unique part that would only "fit" in the Millennium Falcon or something like that.
