Hi everyone. I installed gentoo a week ago coming from arch and started reading about making my installation more secure without Selinux or everything too strict though. Up until now I have created a sandbox user for my firefox installation with various extensions and tor. The last two days though I notices that my upload speed is constantly in maximum capacity.
I tried disabling tor to see if I was a bridge but the upload is still there. I also haven't installed a torrent client so its not that. Even if I close firefox the upload is there.
I have run a trace with wireshark and it shows almost all the traffic on my computer goes there:
Code:
2842 19.878531900     universe ? 224.0.0.56   UDP 1334 45987 ? 46160 Len=1292
. Previously it was the gvsp protocol on the same destination.
i also tried to run nethogs as an alternative and it says that all the traffic is from root to that destination.
This doesn't affect my internet but still I need help in knowing where does all the traffic go. Please tell me if you need more information.

Savoritias,

That's a local non-routable multicast address
The traffic is going somewhere on your network, which is why your internet is not affected.

Thanks for the fast reply. I think I know what it is. In the sound applet of kde there is a multicast that controls the sound of the sandbox user. So this traffic is going to pulse audio I presume?
