They did it because DS9 locked them there.

DS9 had a time travel episode where they went back to the TOS era and they saw a bunch of Klingons without ridges there who looked nothing like Worf and Worf was there. They could either ignore it or not but they choose to let the main characters acknowledge it. Worf said that it was a matter Klingons would rather not discuss and Enterprise later provided the explanation.

By making the main characters notice it DS9 made it canon that the Klingons actually did not have ridges back then rather than saying they had them but we just didn't see them because of special effects tech not allowing it at the time.

To me it was just a cheeky nod to how cheaply TOS was done, its endearing to be able to laugh at yourself in this way

it's not a real language. It doesn't sound like a real language.

It reminds me of the "Indian talk" in old American Westerns (from the '40s and '50s).

"Oopum chuntagwa!"

"What'd he say?"

"Big Chief him say you stay in fort many moon while corn not grow, now winter come, and unless white horse soldiers come with wagon train, you not have food for winter or corn to plant in spring, so him offer 40 sacks of corn for white woman with red hair. Also, not burn fort, take men scalps, and count many coup on white pudenda."

Hey, that's offensive to me. Get out of my Safe Place, and get the hell off my lawn!

Yeah felt it was the best episode thusfar for sure.

Harry Mudd was also actually a decent character.

Also, first fuck on Star Trek, about time.

That was a good episode, yet I am still pissed that I had to subscribe and pay for CBS all access.

Enterprise then further explained the why.

They got radiation and all mutated into large negroes, with ridges on their foreheads so you'd be less likely to notice?

They've got curvy gut-ripper blades poking up out of their boots. It don't get more bad-ass than that.

Best episode yet, imo. Characters are starting to flesh out.

Well the first of the episodes are over. I am liking it so far, and if there is any SJW B.S., I have been able to filter it.

They've got to you.

This is like the end of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers', the remake.

I'd like to see a Chinese pilot try that.

The penis would be so small, people on the ground would not be able to see it.

Man Michael just keeps being more annoying and annoying.

She speaks like an orator to her friends; it sounds very over-dramatic the way she speaks. She turns everything into a bombastic speech.

She was raised by Vulcans. They always sound lecturing.

Exactly! Real fans don't need subtitles and can already speak fluent Klingon. Pox on Star Trek for catering to non-virgins.

I just now saw that post.

Discovery has copyright issues which is why they had to redesign the look of the show. That had nothing to do with making the Klingons "Trump supporters."

They had the gall to hype Michael as the first woman of color to star in the franchise. Sorry, but Uhura did that in TOS. She even had the first interracial kiss on TV. Add to that the opening of the first episode's only purpose is to pass the Bechdel "test." It proves to me that they care more for scoring brownie points than for actual facts.

Honestly I find it far too cringe worthy to watch. I've had to accept that Star Trek, along with Doctor Who and many other treasured franchises, have simply become self parodies that aren't worth the time to watch. All they had to do was invent their own show, but being original is too much of a burden these days.

Wasn't about her being _the_ star, the captain, whereas Nichelle was maybe a co-star?

Being original is one thing, but doing something challenging to an established canon is an entirely different thing. Done well, both can be good. But is is very easy to do both poorly.

If you want to get technical then no one has been _the_ star of any of the series as all of them focus on the senior staff with episodes focusing on one or more of them. Even Nurse Chapel got her own episode. Given the history of the show the only reason to hype Michael's skin color or genitals is to pander to SJWs.

Absolutely, it is when you try to rewrite cannon or the premise that you get into trouble. Discovery does a lot of rewriting and redefining.
