I want use fail2ban. I have installed it. But i cant activate it. I get many differents error. A remerge i have done. The last message was to activate a service logger. Which i need? What i have to install? What can i do to clear this problem?

Code:
localhost /home/michi # fail2ban
bash: fail2ban: command not found.

Code:
michi@localhost ~ $ su
Passwort:
localhost /home/michi # emerge -av fail2ban

 * IMPORTANT: 15 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] net-analyzer/fail2ban-0.9.6::gentoo  USE="systemd (-selinux)" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python3_4 (-pypy) -python2_7 (-python3_5)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 (-pypy) (-python3_5)" 0 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 KiB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]
Code:

localhost /home/michi # /etc/init.d/fail2ban status
 * status: stopped
localhost /home/michi # /etc/init.d/fail2ban start
 * ERROR: fail2ban needs service(s) logger

michi-monster,

fail2ban reads logs to know what to ban. That requires that you install a logger.

As always, Gentoo offers a choice :)
There are some recommendations in the handbook.

Don't miss the "Tip".
if your logs don't get rotated, they will grow without limit. That's a very bad thing when your HDD fills up.

Command installed are:
Code:
# fail2ban-<tab><tab>
fail2ban-client     fail2ban-python     fail2ban-regex      fail2ban-server     fail2ban-testcases

For init script you should install and run a logger service
