Just a sanity check, I did a reinstall yesterday of my Gentoo box, I installed Xorg and Nvidia as root and not as my useraccount with sudo.
Does it matter? Handbook doesn't state either beeing wrong or right.
My last setup i only could access nvidia-settings as sudo, but if it's allright i'll let it be, otherwise i'll unmerge as root and do the whole process again as user and with sudo command.

| You install both as root, that's normal. About nvidia-settings, you should add your user to the video group. |

You install as root, since only root can install software system wide.
Its a really bad idea to run a GUI as root though.

True, i forgot to add my user account to video group. I usually never ever run anything gui wise as root. |
