First of all, hi. First post. What an amazing forum this is. I'll try to make this post as clear as I can.

Secondly, I've kind of had this issue for quite a while now, but I've never really bothered to fix it, since it's not that big of an issue--but, boy, it sure does bug me a heck of a lot. Pic related.

As you can discern, the GTK flag is, in fact, actually in affect, as you can see that the toolbar adheres to the default GTK theme on this install, Adwaita. But nothing else. The font does not parallel that of the toolbar, and the scroll bar, on top of being on the left hand side, is, uh, not GTK-like. In those ways, it doesn't resemble the Emacs I'm familiar with, that's packaged on other distros the way that I'm used to, which lead me to ascribe this issue to packaging and my lack of understanding thereof.

Well, I've installed Gentoo what has to be dozens of times now, and, strangely, Emacs has always looked like this when I finish. On my laptop, on my desktop, on my other laptop, etc. ....Despite having done several installs, I'd like to think that I'm pretty conservative when it comes to experimenting with Gentoo, so I always find myself installing the same packages and using the same use flags over and over again--minus the optimization stuff that varies from hardware to hardware of course--so I always install with the same
Code:
default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop
profile that I always do--and that's basically the only set of use flags affecting Emacs when I emerge it.

My first instinct was to emerge Emacs in a bunch of different ways, and see if that somehow fixes the problem, but it doesn't look like it does, as far as I've tried. So I'm wondering if this is even an issue of how it's emerged. I think it might be a configuration thing--or maybe it's not even that, and Emacs is supposed to look this way!

I've looked all over the place to no avail. No one is talking about this. I'm starting to worry that it's maybe me who's insane. Well, as I said, Emacs has looked like this across several installs and Gentoo exclusively, so I suspect that, if there's any place I should look for people who have maybe experienced this issue (and hopefully a solution), it would be this place. My emacs configuration isn't something fancy. The only thing I've really done to adulterate my otherwise vanilla init file was just, like, one or two files for syntax highlighting and multi-term.

Maybe I'm missing something important here. It would be nice if some kind person could fill me in. Thanks in advance.

Code:

% emerge --info emacs
