All my experience is with OpenRC. I wanted to set up a System D system for the experience, lol
Under OpenRC, you would enable PHP in /etc/conf.d/apache2, using APACHE2_OPTS="-D PHP". My understanding from https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Systemd/conf.d_files is that System D doesn't use this file. I've read over https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Apache which talks about starting Apache using System D. However, it doesn't say anything about starting PHP under System D.
How do you start PHP under System D?

If you have USE=systemd, a service file for systemd will be created for you for a lot of services. I think some services will install a service file regardless...
However apache loads php as a subservice and not as an actual systemd service.
Luckily the Gentoo devs already dealt with this, and ... surprise! The apache2 service file written by the Gentoo Devs actually uses /etc/conf.d/apache2 to make it compatible with openrc, so go ahead and edit that file to start php.
(BTW. Though there's such thing as System V UNIX, but systemd is systemd like distccd is distccd.) _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Thank you eccerr0r. I'm still new to this systemd stuff and thought I was missing a step... |
