Hi,

I'd like Korganizer to sync with my calendars in Google calendar. Seemingly, this is possible if you have kde-apps/libkgapi installed. However, when I add a new calendar in Korganizer, among the options (DAV, Open-Xchange...) no "Google calendar" or something like that is shown. I installed kde-apps/kdepim-meta just in case...but it didn't help. Am I missing something?

Cheers.

Did you build kdepim-meta and its dependencies with USE=google?

Thanks for the quick reply!!

Yes, I set the google USE flag and libkgapi is installed. I even tried in a brand new user, just in case it's something related to my settings (which I'm been carrying forward for years)...but that's not the problem either.

Go to systemsettings, online accounts, and add your google account (you will be asked for authentication).

I added my Google account, but still no luck.

I remember this thing used to work fine in KDE4 times just with libkgapi, but KDEPIM has come a long way...

With KOrganizer 4 I remember I had to sign-in to my Google account and change my Google account settings to allow access to 'less secure apps'. Although I'm now using KOrganizer 5, I have left my Google account settings like that and have not tried changing back yet. You could try changing your Google account settings to 'less secure apps' to see if KOrganizer 5 then works.

I got it solved...actually asturm was right

I had set the "google" USE flag for "kdepim-meta" but that didn't (automatically) set it for "kde-apps/kdepim-runtime". Maybe it should because otherwise it seems Google stuff isn't working (don't know if this deserves a "bug")

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help!!

In >=17.08.1 the flag will be removed anyway making it non-optional.

I have now changed my Google account settings to disable access to 'less-secure apps', and it has not affected KOrganizer 5's access.

Google > My Account > Sign-in & security > Allow less secure apps: OFF

By the way, I found that I had to install net-libs/libgcal in order to get KOrganizer to display events entered directly in Google Calendar via a Web browser. Without installing libgcal, I found that events entered in KOrganizer would update Google Calendar in a Web browser, but events entered in Google Calendar via a Web browser would never show up in KOrganizer, even if the Refresh Interval in KOrganizer is set correctly (I normally have it set to 10 minutes). Others have the same problem: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375358 . As I say, in my case installing net-libs/libgcal seems to have solved the problem.

Code:
clevow230ss fitzcarraldo # cat /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/libgcal
=net-libs/libgcal-0.9.6-r1 ~amd64
clevow230ss fitzcarraldo # eix -I libgcal
[I] net-libs/libgcal
     Available versions:  (~)0.9.6-r1^t {debug doc test}
Installed versions:  0.9.6-r1^t(17:18:07 21/08/17)(-debug -doc -test)
     Homepage:            https://code.google.com/p/libgcal/
Description:         C/C++ interface to the Google Data API

EDIT: Now I'm now not sure libgcal is necessary, as I un-merged it but but events entered in Google Calendar via a Web browser still show up in KOrganizer after the applicable refresh interval.
