Xfce appearance (color theme) list empty

Not sure if this is a portage problem or some of my configuration files became corrupt, but for a few months now, i cannot change the color theme of my xfce desktop.
It only happens on one of the machines, that i have gentoo on.
It all seem to started when some big xfce4-theme-*** package was removed from portage, and suddenly the color of all windows elements went very bright (previously i used a dusk/obsidian-like theme because dark colors are easier on the eye).
I have tried installing multiple xfce theme packages, but none of them seem to have any effect, as the Settings->Appearance->Style list seems empty - the window manager list works correctly tho.
