It is easy to complain when things don't work. It happens less often that someone would write when things work. So it can look like there's more problems than might actually be the case.

I'm writing somewhat in response to the many "my icons don't scale"-themed threads that are starting to come up as "4K" displays become more common.

I just wanted to toss in a few words "from the other side of the fence", to say that I use Hi-DPI monitors precisely *because* it gives icons and title/menu bars of a small, manageable size while still being crisp and readable, opening up the screen area to fit more code and still have room for a browser to look things up in and a bunch of xterms for compiling and stuff.

So that when the scaling issue does get addressed (as it should), know that some of us like it tiny, and do make sure there's enough range on those controls on either side of "normal". Thanks! :)

I solved scaling issues in a fairly simple way: I just bought a bigger display than the one I've been using previously, so the increased resolution and increased dimensions provide me much more space and cancel each other when it comes to detail's size.
I believe this is the best possible solution to the scaling problem: making sure your DPI doesn't change much when you replace your hardware
