Hi! I used to love the pseudo-transparency that xfce4-terminal had where it would show my background but not other windows. Now that I've upgraded from version 0.6.3 to 0.8.5.1, when I go to the terminal properties, it just says "Sorry, your Window Manager does not support compositing: Opacity setting is not available." I could turn on compositing, but then I'd get full transparency, and I've always found that distracting. Does anyone know how to get the pseudo-transparency behavior with the newer version of xfce4-terminal?

I see a thread discussing that somewhere along the way this change was made in 0.8 last September.

There is a suggestion in the thread but looks like you need compositing.

Can you not choose your background color on the Colors tab, would that give you the effect you want?

A shaded image for the background can be rather nice. Here is a comparison to a partially transparent gnome-terminal:

Thanks so much for the links! It seems the new gtk3/vte3 just won't support the lovely pseudo-transparency. It's full transparency, or no transparency. I've just downgraded my xfce4-terminal back to 0.6.3. It's not a permanent solution, of course, but it seems to be working for now until I find a better solution.
