Hi, just finished compiling a new kernel. However, I can't update the graphic drivers for it. This is emerge --info
Code:

emerge --info '=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.102::gentoo'

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.102::gentoo was built with the following:
USE="X acpi multilib tools -pax_kernel -static-libs -uvm" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)"

And the error when building: https://pastebin.com/Bxn6M5iX

This is the part that seems to be the error:
Code:
error: #error "This driver requires the ability to change memory types!"

Looks like it's related to this:

If you're not used to working with patch, don't feel comfortable patching the kernel, or want an easier fix, use the 4.9.43 LTS kernel.

Yes, using the current 4.9.43 LTS kernel would be fine.

So, I guess I'll stick to 4.9 for a while. I'll see if noveau is decent enough to switch to it.

Nouveau also doesn't have the security risks of the closed source nvidia drivers.

I remember this day:

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTE1MTk

More recent:

https://usn.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-3173-2/

I'd highly recommend giving Nouveau a shot with the latest versions of Mesa, libdrm, and xf86-video-nouveau. For older nvidia hardware (legacy stuff, think it was a G210M, it was on some POS laptop) I've actually seen better 3D and 2D performance with Nouveau compared to the nvidia drivers on a Windows system, which was really quite amazing. Cheers!

Thanks! I'll see if my budget allows for a graphics card upgrade or I'll simply migrate to noveau.
