Ok, like most we have a local tax for fire, police and waste collection services (amongst other things, such as multicultural diversity reprogramming).

Over the past five or so weeks refuse collection have been staging industrial action and this has meant that in some areas rubbish hasn't been picked up for a month or so. Old JB hasn't had a collection for two weeks I can cope I live alone don't generate too much waste, the recycling bin has missed two collections and is full (tinnies mainly, but I digress).

So, the response from our Labour council has been, if you can drive to the local tip - do so and dispose there, don't wait for a collection. Which is fair enough, people should get off their arses and all of that - but for the fact that we pay tax for (amongst other things) waste collection (if the council stopped the flow of multicultural diversity material I'd have to reprogram myself. Shudder).

Therefore some have raised the equally fair point that we should have a rebate on the tax that we pay, the council's response, apologies for the auto play video (I hate it), and the waffle that you have to dig through :

linky

Quote:
The council states: "Council Tax is not paid to fund a particular service and there is a legal obligation to pay.

I don't care if it costs a penny a week, if I employ somebody to do a job and they don't do it, I have legal redress - in this case I don't.

Jesus.

My bin was emptied tody, 1st time in weeks.
The problem with the goto local recycling centre is ... Everyone is doing that. I can't get into my local one and it's even worse going to work as that is my route.

I am not surprised labour find a way to not refund, they cannot be trusted with money. How did they win in Birmingham again...

It's worse with garden waste, we have to directly pay for that now (£40 a year), if they miss three of them you have the right to possibly receive a refund.

The green (leaves, grass, branches, etc) garbage didn't pick up last Wednesday on my street, so everyone just left their bins out on the street. They only collect twice a month, and having a rather lush yard (multiple trees and plants along with a yard full of grass) means that both of my green bins are full .. as it's Summer.

So, I won't be able to do any yard work until the day after next Wednesday... and yes, I'm taxed for this pathetic garbage collection service.

They've also forgotten my street for recyclable collection more than once... so at this point, I'm going to stop separating my waste and let them separate it at the collection center. If they aren't doing their minimum, I'm also going to refuse to do the minimum.

Ok -still not collected, we wouldn't have had this mess with a conservative run council, speaking of which the only member of local government that appears to be trying to do anything happens to be tory.

You bloody sod. I hate it too! You know how petty that sounds like? And do something about it is the cure.

You want to try living here, opened the door this morning to water me hanging basket and the smell of rubbish wafted over, it's the neighbours largish family, there's a heap of refuse sacks next to the wheely bin.

It's like being stuck in the middle ages, just need to start crapping out of the window (note Blackadder reference) and gong farmers to reappear (although if council employed they'd probably start industrial action too) for the full set.

My sympathy, unfortunately it's too wet here for me to mow - I'm really cut up.

We contract a private company that doesn't suck, in fact customer service is something I've noticed they are really good at.

It's an equitable trade to be as close as you are to the world's best breakfast beverage. All Hail Kona. King of coffees.

(Seriously, those that say coffee beans that have been shit out of a rat is the best are the worst kind of fart smelling snobs.)

Plus when the right wing revolution happens, you have a handy dandy volcano to throw lefties into!

That's the difference, you also have legal protection if they don't do the job that they're contracted to do.

Anybody that voted for Corbyn, or has sympathies for socialism, this situation is a small taste of what will/can happen.

Excellent points. And Kona does rule, especially a light to barely medium roast. It's just perfect. Blue Mountain would be the closest contender for my taste,

Yeah... Blue mountain is nice. For that I need a better burr grinder and an upgrade to my French press, though because it is too expensive to not do right.

Best trash service I've ever had was in a competitive market. Never missed a day. Rang the bell if you forgot to put it out. And sometimes brought the can closer to the house (seemed weather related).

Bloody unions are now saying could last till Xmas
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/birmingham-bins-strike-to-last-13463841

I'm tempted to track down labour voters and dump my waste on their front lawn... They facilitated this, they can deal with it. Oh and now it's time to sort out a rebate

Driving it to the tip means you're a scab. You're pretty much stealing food out of the workers mouths.

I don't mind taking my rubbish away - as long as the ministry (council) refunds me the tax that I pay.

Got to drag me green waste through for next week, we pay (£35) extra for that, so as a privately paid for service, I (should) have grounds with this.

If you want to do something constructive, join the picket line. Or tell your council to pay these hard working class men and women a liveable wage.

They get paid £7000 less than the average full time worker, and the council wants to cut that back further.

You better hope there are enough immigrants coming into the country to fill these jobs after they gut them.
