Is there any way to prevent the drivers for the RTL wireless card from loading when booting a minimal installation environment on a Thinkpad x100e? I swapped the card out for a whitelisted Atheros card (AR5B95) but the minimal installation image keeps loading drivers for the card, even though it's no longer there and I think that it may be stopping the Atheros card from being able to scan for a wireless network, even though the Atheros drivers are loaded and the machine appears to see the card.

Try https://sysresccd.org instead of "minimal installation image". It should have much better wireless support. |

Systemrescuecd seems to result in hardblocking the card. Still loads the RTL drivers too. |

After booting can you unload the driver and install the correct one with "rmmod and modprobe"?
rmmod rtl8192 && modprobe -v ath5k
Assuming those are the correct module names. |
