If this is asked already, I apoligise but I didn't know how to put this in the 'search bar', hehe

Anyway, I did an `emerge -pu world` and that said my system was up to date, however, after I did `emerge search openssh` it said there was a newer version. Why is this?

Thx 4 the help again,
Mark

Because dependancies of programs you emerge are not added to your world file, so emerge -u world will only check the packages that are listed in your world file, not their dependancies.

Just for my own knowledge:
emerge -u world will update all the apps in the worldfile (if they need updating)
emerge system will emerge all the installed apps again
emerge rsync downloads the latest portage-tree

true ?? :?:

If not, please let me know

emerge system would install all system apps again if i am correct. I also believe you can do a emerge -u system to update system apps if nescessary.

The openssh package is part of the "system" i believe, so emerge -u system should update openssh too.
