Hi,

having an hdd and plenty of ram I got to know sys-apps/preload.

Beside the default configuration, I wondered about the setting memcached, which is by default set to 0. Using PRELOAD_VERBOSITY=10, I see almost nothing is preloaded as only 0kb are available. Setting the memcached to 30, preload is doing some preloading.
What sense does the setting of 0 make? If not is should be adapted in the default configuration.

While the logs say that about 2GB Ram are used to cache binaries and 892 are in the cache...
Code:
[Wed May 24 08:35:19 2017] 5258100kb available for preloading, using 2050796kb of it
[Wed May 24 08:35:19 2017] readahead 892 files

I wonder that there is nobody reserving that memory as the preload process only has 18340 VIRT memory size:
Code:
root      2145  0.4  0.0  18340  6380 ?        SNs  08:30   0:00 /usr/sbin/preload -l /var/log/preload.log -V 10 -n 15 -s /var/lib/preload/preload.state -f
