Normally when an unprivileged user at console tries to reboot or shutdown the machine and root or another account is logged in remotely, xfce4 gives a warning upon logout that a remote user is connected and gives an option to accept or cancel. The person at the console should be allowed to shut down the computer, they have the power switch after all.

However it should be possible for the user to cancel the reboot/shutdown. But that dialog box that pops up, if one presses "cancel" the machine proceeds to reboot/shutdown anyway.

Can it be made such that it's possible to cancel the shutdown?

The machine is running consolekit, though I recall having some consolekit machines where this was working and it indeed is possible to simply logout instead of shutting down.

I haven't tried my other machines with elogind, whether it has the same problem or not, will check that sometime soon...
