OpenGL inaccessible in kvm+qemu+libvirt+virtmanager config

Hello! I am unable to use OpenGL in my virt-manager machine setup. Checkbox itself is grayed-out with an error mesage: "Hypervisor/libvirt does not support manual rendernode"
However, qemu is built with "opengl" flag.
What am I missing? Maybe, some kernel option?
Here is my emerge --info of libvirt, qemu and virt-manager:

Code: Select all

emerge --info app-emulation/qemu app-emulation/libvirt app-emulation/virt-manager

Hello !

Dunno if I can help but as I am also a Gentoo user of KVM/libvirt/virt-manager, I'll try to .. :)

Where do you see the grayed out option on the virt-manager UI ? I tried to find it but couldn't locate it.

Ok that's weird, while I was able to check the box on 1.4.1 (once) I now have a message : "Hypervisor/libvirt does not support spice GL"

screenie where I was able to check the box -> http://i.imgur.com/P13IPuV.png

Now I have a "3D acceleration" under Video: VirtIO

My system is a bit special since I do vfio (GPU virtualization) but for this screenshot I was running off an Intel HD card (i5 Ivy bridge)

PS : That's a seriously HiDPi screen you have :)

Tha's interesting. First, about hardware (and screen :P)-running a Core m(5Y71) system with 3200x1800 resolution and HD5300 graphics(Broadwell-Y). Next, about software-running Gentoo on the latest (4.10.9) kernel with Mesa 17.0.3 and latest ~amd64 versions of QEMU and libvirt. Also, I'm trying to run VMs with OVMF, but tried both with BIOS and UEFI-the problem remains.
What does your exclamation mark-styled icon tells you? Any other ideas?
And about vfio-wouln't GPU pass-through make the GPU unavailable for host system? Or have you managed to get something like GVT-g up and running on Gentoo?

Right now the exclamation mark tells me Hypervisor/libvirt does not support spice GL, I thought it is because app-emulation/spice is not installed on my end but even with it emerged, no more luck

Perhaps you would have some more luck on a mailing list related to libvirt or virt-manager ? This is a quite specific problem on a recent tech.

For the passthrough, I give another discrete card (GTX 750 Ti) to my OVMF Windows VM while Gentoo runs on the Intel HD. Then when I'm done with the VM, I can restart X11 on the GTX if I wish or keep using the Intel HD, it works nicely :)

After updating to latest libvirt-3.2.0, qemu-9999(2.9.0 is still not in tree) and virglrenderer-9999(0.6 is out of tree either) I have OpenGL flag unlocked, but it doesn't change lot. Now with OpenGL enabled i am getting thiese error on VM start:

Code: Select all

egl: no drm render node available
Failed to initialize EGL render node for SPICE GL
Would be glad for any advice... Thanks!

The problem is solved by adding qemu user to "video" group and specifying adapter instead of using "auto" one in SPICE OGL settings(auto still does not work-looks like it's rights management problems)
