|

Hello, I am looking for some GUI applet to control Network Manager but without any dependence on Gtk, Gnome nor KDE base libraries. I do have the main QT5 libraries installed so as to run qupzilla and I don't mind compiling kde-frameworks/networkmanager-qt which pulls almost nothing, but I do not want to install the bulk of any DE. plasma-nm pulls in most of KDE, I found https://github.com/zballina/nm-applet-qt but it is unmaintained and it does not compile with newer libnm-qt. Razor-qt (now lxqt) points to YaNMa that seems to be dead as well. Is there any applet out there that I can use with these conditions? |

You will have no luck to find a real GUI without dependencies for GTK KDE GNOME or qt, but NetworkManager itself has a ncurses based interface. You can run it with the command

I had the same problem when trying lxqt, not want to install halv plasma desktop for networkmanager-qt.
So i installed connman with cmst instead built with qt5.
I tried connman before and have always be very stable. But cmst can be up and down sometimes. (dont enable vpn and have autostart at the same time freeze the tryicon and not showing up. Happend to me today

Thanks, this is a viable solution to my problem. Unfortunately I have never been able to get connman to connect to my wireless (it fails to get an address by dhcp) but It has been ages since my last attempt. Things might have changed. |
