According to whom? Pol Pot?
Martin Scorsese, Roger Ebert

Are they ok?

Thought so. Snooty critics rate a film high, therefore it must be good.

Not unlike a dictat from a dictator or a fatwa from ayatollah.
Martin Scorcese isn't a film critic

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/film-critic

Is The Independent a newspaper?
Has Martin Scorsese written an article on a newspaper for the sole purpose of reviewing a film?

If yes to both, then Martin Scorsese is a film critic.

The only contention is whether or not you can consider him to be snooty.

I'd consider praising an obscure film with no logical plot lines as artistic expression of higher order as extremely snooty.

Sooth, and if he be publicly offering his opinion of the film, he is de facto critic, be it neither metier nor mantle.

Actually a series.
Strike back. E1S1

It felt like a propaganda of real events in a movie like production. I would like to say as like Bill Nuye, but that would be excessive.
Am I correct here?

I kept seeing that advertised for years on Cinemax. Cinemax is a movie channel connected with HBO, but their original series are all really bad porn with no porn (softcore porn... and WTF is up with that? Softcorn porn is pointless. Bill Hicks said it best, it's not porn unless someone is gooey at the end).

Strike Back looked like a bunch of softcore Skinemax actors upping their game to really bad, cheesy action films designed for the same people who like softcore porn. So, I never watched it, as I assumed it was going to be really bad.

I loved Banshee. It was dumb, but fun to watch.

I liked the action, but the room between was, my feel, very staged. I got it from a friend (my brother)... He wants to enlighten (preach) people. So, I felt another opinion would be fine. Yours are good. Thanks.
So, it's like Cinemax? No junk, just the good angles?

Yes.

I'd classify as high art.

Sex and violence.

So, if a movie contains sex and violence, that movie is high art. Clearly, you have refined cinematic aesthetics and your opinion is worthy of being transmitted across the etherspace and read by many.

Absolutely. There's no other way to see it.

So, is it a step function, like if it has "this much" sex and "that much" violence, then it's high art? Or is it a continuous function, like the more sex it has and the more violence it has, the more artistic it is, and if it's a certain degree of artistic, it's "high art"? Or is it something else?

If it were quantifiable and formulaic, it would be science not art. Let alone high art.

Art is subjective and therefore high art is highly subjective.

So, if it makes you feel good, it's high art, but if you're constipated that day it's crap. I get it.

This is like when the math teacher wants to see how the answer was derived. Sure their logic is all wrong, but they still got the correct answer.
