I haven't been able to replicate this yet after experiencing this once.

My machine was running fairly slowly especially on logins recently and I didn't think much of it because it pretty much coincided with my RAID5 dropping into degraded mode. This is on a quad core machine so after logging in, it seems to be OK for a while, but hiccups once in a while. Today I found my console-kit-daemon was curiously running at 100% CPU. For the heck of it, I killed it and restarted all sessions (lightdm, ssh) and so far things seem to look back to normal. Weird.

I was not able to find any people complaining about this on ConsoleKit2 but there had been a complaint against ConsoleKit-0.3 at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/consolekit/+bug/284229 - and ConsoleKit-0.4.6 has the patch that was suggested in the Ubuntu thread.

However ConsoleKit2 seems to have changed a good bit. I suppose it's just a simple question at this point - those people who are using ConsoleKit2, have you seen this occur where its CPU utilization goes to 100%?

Nope. No issues regarding consolekit here on a non blown up DE (i3wm)

Thing is, I rarely login to the DE on this machine (xfce4). Most of the time I ssh... I ssh a LOT (includes a lot of scps, and the ratio is probably like 50 ssh logins to one lightdm login) and ssh does trigger consolekit though does not get any console privs of course...

Dangit, it showed its ugly head again. No strace results so it's like an internal bug. Killing and logging all sessions out and back in restores operation.

Using sys-auth/consolekit-1.1.0-r1

Might have to try to upgrade to a ~amd64 version alas no way to reliably trigger this bug.

Looks like it's hanging up in libglib-2.0: g_io_channel_flush .
