I'm installing new system, when it's trying to emerge sys-devel/gettext and sys-block/parted, it hangs on "checking for working sleep".
any help would be appreciated |

Please post the output of emerge --info. Among other things, that would have shown us what video card drivers you selected. |

I had the same problem; alarm(2) from unistd did not work for me as well. Including POSIX_MQUEUE in my kernel configuration seems to have worked for me. |

"checking for nanosleep" problem vanished after activating following kernel-config
Code: | CONFIG_POSIX_TIMERS=y |
what is quite logical as described in the kernel-option help-description:
When this option is disabled, the following syscalls won't be available: timer_create, timer_gettime: timer_getoverrun, timer_settime, timer_delete, clock_adjtime, getitimer, setitimer, alarm. Furthermore, the clock_settime, clock_gettime, clock_getres and clock_nanosleep syscalls will be limited to CLOCK_REALTIME, CLOCK_MONOTONIC and CLOCK_BOOTTIME only.
as far as I can see this problem has nothing to do with nvidia-proprietary drivers - at least on my gentoo-installation on a Dell XPS 15 (from Q1 2016)
