I finally updated from KDE 4 to Plasma 5 yesterday.

I am usually using 2 local sessions with 2 different users. Gfx driver is Nvidia binary.

I have tried sddm and lightdm.

In 2 hours, the lock screen crashed twice, displaying that silly text about using some systemd tool to rescue the session and also twice the complete original session crashed while switching to another local session.

Any hints on how this could be investigated?

Thanks!

I have these entries in the log around the time I had lock screen crashes:

Feb 26 16:43:09 linux lightdm[2357]: pam_unix(lightdm:session): session closed for user thomas

The "console-kit-daemon" and "kernel: traps" messages are red. I don't know, if this is related to the crashes of the lock screen.

Got one crash report from kwin on TTY 8 (:1), but session was still alive:

http://pastebin.com/UBFwGvcR

Forgot one important point:
I have 2 monitors, which are defined in xorg.conf. Each has its own X display (:0.0 and :0.1). I only use the 2nd monitor (TV) to explicitly start programs there (MythTV).

Also, when the session is locked, I can't see the "." while typing the password to unlock.

I have now deleted the 2nd monitor from xorg.conf and also in KDE system settings.

One immediately visible difference: I see now the "." when typing the password to unlock the screen.

Perhaps the crashes will not occur anymore now. Testing...

Edit:
One other thing, I have /usr/local/bin/kwin with this content:
#!/bin/bash
__GL_YIELD=USLEEP /usr/bin/kwin

This is preventing tearing for horizontal movements, also TripleBuffer is activated in xorg.conf.

Seems like Nvidia + Plasma 5 + 2 local sessions = known crashes:
