Hi, dear all!

I had tried to install vagrant, but it failed with following error. Although there are a lot similar issues, I still failed to solve the problem after googling and trying with several methods, maybe I am knowing too little about Gentoo. Following are error information and what had I tried.

Any suggestion would be grateful!

1. emerge -av app-emulation/vagrant, then it output:
Code:
!!! Found 2 make.conf files, using both '/etc/make.conf' and '/etc/portage/make.conf'

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- dev-perl/DBD-mysql-4.20.0::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Kent Fredric <kentnl@gentoo.org> (04 Feb 2017)
# Unsecure versions that have been only restored to tree
# to resolve compatibility problems with mail-filter/amavisd-new
# Use with caution due to these being removed for CVE-2016-1251
# Bug: #601144
# Bug: #604678

- app-arch/rar-4.2.0::gentoo (masked by: RAR license(s))
A copy of the 'RAR' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/RAR'.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

2. I tried with adding "--backtrack=30", but it doesn't work.

3. I tried with "--oneshot", either with package name of “dev-ruby/rubygems-2.0.14:0/0” or “dev-ruby/rubygems-2.0.14”, it complained as no such ebuilds:

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "=dev-ruby/rubygems-2.0.14".

4. I tired with adding packages like "dev-ruby/rubygems-2.5.2:0/0::gentoo" to package.mask, but it seemed the name isn't right and output with same error

You have old package installed (e.g.: dev-lang/ruby-1.9.3_p484).
You have never tried to run a depclean, emerge -ca?
Be carefully and read with attention what portage want to remove

Hi, thanks for your reply!

I used to install software with emerge without learning a lot of it, so I just google when encountering the issue, and don't know I should "emerge -ca". But with “emerge -ca”, it said I should "emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world", which would result in the error previously, should I mask dev-lang/perl and re-install dev-lang/python-exe?

Code:
emerge -ca
!!! Found 2 make.conf files, using both '/etc/make.conf' and '/etc/portage/make.conf'

 * Always study the list of packages to be cleaned for any obvious
 * mistakes. Packages that are part of the world set will always
 * be kept.  They can be manually added to this set with
 * `emerge --noreplace <atom>`.  Packages that are listed in
 * package.provided (see portage(5)) will be removed by
 * depclean, even if they are part of the world set.
 *
 * As a safety measure, depclean will not remove any packages
 * unless *all* required dependencies have been resolved.  As a
 * consequence of this, it often becomes necessary to run
 * `emerge --update --newuse --deep @world` prior to depclean.

I am installing dev-lang/perl, then I would "emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world", "emerge -ca", finally install vagrant, is this right?

Ok, first problem is this
Code:
!!! Found 2 make.conf files, using both '/etc/make.conf' and '/etc/portage/make.conf'

The correct location of make.conf is /etc/portage/ (/etc/make.conf is old location), you can post content of two file for understand what is possible to remove?

Thanks for reply again!

The /etc/make.conf file is write by me about three year ago, the major context is similar, I think I could delete /etc/make.conf, is this right?

1. Context of /etc/portage/make.conf

Quote:
# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically
# built this stage.
# Please consult /usr/share/portage/config/make.conf.example for a more
# detailed example.
CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
# WARNING: Changing your CHOST is not something that should be done lightly.
# Please consult http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/change-chost.xml before changing.
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"

# profile used for building.
USE="bindist mmx sse sse2"

FEATURES="parallel-fetch"
MAKEOPTS="-j1"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64"
CCACHE_SIZE="2G"
CCACHE_DIR="/var/tmp/ccache"

2. Context of /etc/make.conf
Quote:
FEATURES="parallel-fetch"
MAKEOPTS="-j3"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64"
CCACHE_SIZE="2G"
CCACHE_DIR="/var/tmp/ccache"

# Set PORTDIR for backward compatibility with various tools:
# gentoo-bashcomp - bug #478444
# euse - bug #474574
# euses and ufed - bug #478318
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"

By the way, emerge dev-lang/perl isn't solve the problem :(

The only problem that I see is ACCEPT_KEYWORDS, in one file is set to ~amd64 (testing) and in the other one is set amd64 (stable).
Post also emerge --info

Ok you can remove /etc/make.conf.
Now try to run emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world --backtrack=300 and if not work post output.

The error is same as previously, and I had emerged "dev-lang/perl". Do I have to update dev-lang/python-exec-2.0.2 to dev-lang/python-exec-2.4.4? If the answer is yes, whether it would influenced postgresql, which is used by confluence of atlassian that I had install for other persons?

Best wishes!

Code:
emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world --backtrack=300

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

dev-lang/python-exec:2

  (dev-lang/python-exec-2.4.4:2/2::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    (no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)

  (dev-lang/python-exec-2.0.2:2/2::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    dev-lang/python-exec:2/2=[python_targets_python2_7(-),python_targets_python3_3(-),python_single_target_python2_7(+)] required by (dev-db/postgresql-server-9.4_beta1:9.4/9.4::gentoo, installed)

    dev-lang/python-exec:2/2=[python_targets_python2_7(-),python_targets_python3_3(-),python_single_target_python2_7(+)] required by (dev-db/postgresql-9.4_beta1:9.4/9.4::gentoo, installed)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

I don't believe that python-exec-2.4.4 can influence your postgresql installation, but I see that you have both postgresql and postgresql-server. Some year ago postgresql (client, server, docs,..) has been unified in one ebuild.
I think, but not sure, that one of the two is unused.
Anyway try this command
Code:
# emerge -1 =dev-lang/python-exec-2.4.4 =dev-db/postgresql-server-9.4_beta1 =dev-db/postgresql-9.4_beta1
# emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world --backtrack=300

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Sorry for the late reply as I had to sleep since it too late last night. With postgresql parameter, it complained no such ebuilds, then I deleted them. However, a new issues came up. This make me crazy, I am majoring in biology and don't familiar with emerge too much, I wanted to setup the software and updated potage with 'USE="-xattr" emerge -lv portage' as the system was setup about three years ago several days ago, I hope this would be help!

1. When installing python-exec-2.4.4
Code:
emerge -l =dev-lang/python-exec-2.4.4 =dev-db/postgresql-server-9.4_beta1 =dev-db/postgresql-9.4_beta1
Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "=dev-db/postgresql-server-9.4_beta1".

2. *edited* After deleting postgrespl it output following error, I had tried to add block packages to package.mask, but it doesn't work:
Code:
emerge -l =dev-lang/python-exec-2.4.4
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U  ] dev-lang/python-exec-2.4.4 [2.0.2] PYTHON_TARGETS="(python3_6%*)"

the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

NOTE: Use the '--verbose-conflicts' option to display parents omitted above

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
