Hi All:

I have evince and qpdfview installed and both display the greek letters Pie and mui incorrectly.
If I view these on acroread or mupdf they are fine.

I put a bug up on the evince bugzilla but they reported that my example doc displays fine on their systems.

What is going on on my system then?
I need to troubleshoot this as they have masked acroread and the only reason I was keeping that was because of this problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
john

jserink ...

you're probably missing a font providing those symbols, try installing media-fonts/symbola.

Cool!

Installed symbola and rebuilt evince....
no difference.

Good idea though.

jserink ... you shouldn't need to rebuild anything if simply installing a font. Anyhow, these letters are displayed correctly if viewing a webpage (so, for example wikipedia: The Greek Alphabet)?

I suspect the font isn't embeded, and whatever substitute font used isn't suitable, the output of the following will probably give some clue to what fonts are used (requires app-text/poppler):

Code:
$ pdffonts name.pdf

You can try fixing it with the following (requires app-text/ghostscript-gpl):

Code:
% gs -o name-repaired.pdf -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -sDEVICE=pdfwrite name.pdf

Still working on this.

Ok, fixed.....
It was pdf architect on Windows....
I had the TrueType Font set as "Substitute with Device Font". I changed that to "Sownload as Softfont" and the problem is fixed for docs I generate.

But that you so much for that method of fixing documents that I did not create, have noted that in my linux tips-and-tricks directory.

Cheers,
john
