Running Virtualbox VM leads to eternal re-logining.

The screen flashes and displays the input window of login and password. When log in again flashes and displays the input window of login and password. It saves only a reboot.

I mucked around all day trying to upgrade to virualbox and the kernel.

The only working combination was virualbox-4.3.38 and kernel-4.4.39.

Backup and then remove all files from /etc/kernel/. Install gentoo-sources-4.3.38. Build the kernel--4.3.38 using "genkernel all".

Masks:
>sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.4.39

>sys-power/iasl-20140828
>app-emulation/virtualbox-4.3.38
>app-emulation/virtualbox-additions-4.3.38
>app-emulation/virtualbox-extpack-oracle-4.3.38.106717
>app-emulation/virtualbox-modules-4.3.38

Use:
app-emulation/virtualbox additions extensions

/etc/comf.d/modules:
...
# You should consult your kernel documentation and configuration
# for a list of modules and their options.
modules="vboxdrv vboxnetadp vboxnetflt"

My /etc/portage/make.conf:
CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=native -pipe -march=native"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
CPU_FLAGS_X86="aes avx mmx mmxext popcnt sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 sse4a ssse3"
MAKEOPTS="-j5"
FEATURES="-preserve-libs"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64"
ACCEPT_LICENSE="*"
LINGUAS="en"
INPUT_DEVISES="evdev"
VIDEO_CARDS="nouveau"
USE="-kde -gnome -qt -ipv6 -bluetooth -systemd -multilib gtk2"
----------

Try this first and when it works change kernel-4.4.39 to kernel-4.4.39-hardened.
