Having trouble upgrading Perl? You're welcome here.
* If you wonder what dev-perl, perl-core and virtual/perl* are, check the wiki page Perl in Gentoo.
What's the recommendable to way to upgrade Perl?
Try the recent tool app-admin/gentoo-perl-helpers. Instruction is given in the wiki page. It still needs testing, but let us hope that Perl upgrading is almost automatic with this utility.
(Although its only "~amd64 ~arm64 ~x86" as of Mar 2017, I guess it's almost architecture independent, only needing basic utils like bash, coreutils, etc. Maybe you want to try it for any architecture if "emerge -1 perl" complains slot conflicts.)

Rationale of this thread
Upgrading Perl has often been a headache. The introduction of sub-slots in EAPI=5 improved the situation a lot, but still we often see troubles. (Search the forum for "perl conflicts or slots" etc.) If this paragraph becomes obsolete in the future, it'd be nice. _________________ Hack of easy Shift / Ctrl / AltGr etc; save your pinkies, type without drudgery: topic 865313
