You're not showing anything Plasma error related here. Why do you mask those two packages listed here?
Is there anything stopping breeze during build? Where's the error message? |

Hi,
I had to mask ncurses because it was blocking any type of update. It still blocks updates if I unmask it. I masked grub2 just because I want to stick to grub legacy.
I also had plenty of multiple package instances within a single package slot errors that were blocking updates, mostly related to kde4 packages. After 4 months trying to solve them using information in various gentoo forums (to no avail), I decided to use brute force and unmerge a couple of the blocking packages (kde4-l10n and kde-wallpapers). After that I was able to start to emerge kde-plasma/plasma-meta.
In any case, the error message I get is:
Code: | Makefile:127: recipe for target 'all' failed
make: *** [all] Error 2
* ERROR: kde-plasma/breeze-5.8.5::gentoo failed (compile phase):
* emake failed |

You should really fix your system, workarounds don't cut it long-term.
kde4-l10n does not block anything. You are aware of the official upgrade guide? https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE/Plasma_5_upgrade
That's not the actual error. Please use a pastebin to give us the full build.log. |

Is strange behaviour. Do you have qtdbus package installed ?
Try
Code: | find /usr/include/ -name QDBusMessage* |
it should show you
Quote: | /usr/include/qt4/QtDBus/QDBusMessage
/usr/include/qt5/QtDBus/QDBusMessage |
EDIT: I don't see include path to QtDBus include dir. Like -I/usr/include/qt/QtDBus |

Hi,
no, it seems that there's only qt5:
Code: | naramsin pietro # find /usr/include/ -name QDBusMessage*
/usr/include/qt5/QtDBus/QDBusMessage
naramsin pietro # |

I would try
Code: | emerge -1 =dev-qt/qtdbus-4.8.7 |
and see if the problem is gone. |

If qtdbus:4 is the problem probably best way to have this package is activate the qt4 use flag to kde-plasma/plasma-desktop package
Code: | # echo "kde-plasma/plasma-desktop qt4" >> /etc/portage/package.use |

Hi,
did
Code: | emerge -1 =dev-qt/qtdbus-4.8.7 |
and then:
Code: | naramsin pietro # find /usr/include/ -name QDBusMessage*
/usr/include/qt4/QtDBus/QDBusMessage
/usr/include/qt5/QtDBus/QDBusMessage |
But now I have some nice
!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
related to:
dev-qt/qtdbus-5.7.1:5
dev-qt/qtcore-5.7.1-r1:5
etc
dev-qt/qtwidgets
dev-qt/qtdeclarative
dev-qt/qtgui
dev-qt/qtdeclarative

Oh, and using --backtrack=30 doesn't make any difference |

What does Code: | eselect profile list | says ?
It should point to
Quote: | [8] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/plasma * |
Before upgrading to plasma 5 you should have consistent system. And be able to do commands like
Code: | emerge --depclean -a |
and
Code: | emerge -avuDN --with-bdeps y world |
Is it possible right now ? |

Yes, I followed the guide...
but got stuck because of multiple package instances...
and conflicting requirements about openssl requiring +/- bindist |

For bindist the best solution is disable this use flag globally (in make.conf) and run command emerge -UN @world.
For others problems you can post full output of emerge? _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

This makes no sense unless you are on an unstable system. Use qtdbus:4, then it picks up either stable (4.8.6) or unstable (4.8.7) and does not create a whole lot of blockers.
sinanqapudan wrote: | Yes, I followed the guide... |
If indeed you followed the guide then I'm wondering if you ever did the 'Clean up @world' step _without_ --pretend? That should have removed the blockers (that you manually removed anyway, as you previously mentioned, just checking back). |

Thanks,
now, I did as the guide says, with --pretend first, but that highlighted just one package (can't remember what it was), and without --pretend afterwards.
The command:
Code: | emerge --ask --changed-use --newrepo --deep world |
got stuck because of all of the multiple instances errors
then
Code: | emerge --ask kde-plasma/plasma-meta |
got stuck because of the hard blocks for kde4-l10n and kde-wallpapers, which I then brutally unmerged.
then
Code: | emerge --ask kde-plasma/plasma-meta |
started but got stopped at kde-plasma/breeze-5.8.5, as I wrote in my first post |

That's over 600 updates and half of it looks like it's in @system. You might want to sort that out first.
How many months ago was this last updated? |

Fine, how am I supposed to do that?
The last @world update I performed successfully was back in early June 2016 (possibly late May). Then I went on holidays for some three weeks, and when I got back it was impossible to update @world because of blocks and multiple instances issues. Things just went worse with each --sync, with more blocks and more multiple instances. I have been able to update some applications, but never anything more than that (such as @world or @system). I tried to use information already available on the forums, but nothing seemed to work. That is why I had to mask ncurses. |

NOTE: Use the '--verbose-conflicts' option to display parents omitted above
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- sys-libs/ncurses-5.9-r99::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/etc/portage/package.mask:
#kde-apps/kde-meta
#net-libs/libaccounts-glib
- sys-libs/ncurses-5.9-r5::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
- sys-boot/grub-2.02_beta2-r9::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

- sys-libs/ncurses-5.9-r5::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/etc/portage/package.mask:
#kde-apps/kde-meta
#net-libs/libaccounts-glib
- sys-boot/grub-2.02_beta2-r9::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
- sys-libs/ncurses-5.9-r99::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

I run:
Code: | # emerge --deselect $(eix -iCc dev-qt | grep dev-qt | awk '{print $2}') |
just to see if thing start to look better...
I have to admit that this is the first time in 12+ years of using gentoo that I'm starting to ask myself the question "is it worth it?"
Simply there seems to be no end to conflicts and blocks...
Maybe this is just the end of the tether, as Conrad would say... |

You just don't do a major upgrade at the same time your system is severely outdated. No wonder there are blocks left and right. And then even more at the same time you're mixing amd64 with ~amd64. That's love of conflicts. Clean up your package.keywords files.
You can also choose a higher value of backtrack. Like 300. Or 1000.
Try upgrading Qt using `emerge -1vua $(qlist -CI dev-qt/*)`. |
